The Audacity of Underground Soul

We no longer have a "Contact" section at 4DaSoul.

4DaSoul undeground soulDo NOT reach out to us about your music because we are not going to promote music the same way for quite some time. Its a different kind of soul.

What led to this? a few things. One was the constant requests to gimme this gimme that. This BS super inflated wack "what can you do for me" attitude is going to stop here. Also DO NOT add us to ANY email lists.

Artists who only want to "use" 4DaSoul and every other soul site for their personal promotion team. Even worst some try to use us as their affiliate fan site (which we are NOT). Some artists even have the stupid audacity to send us banners to promote them making money for FREE. The best one was the email I got that asked me to fill out a long form to get them their contact to send us music. WAIT. WTF?! So I am supposed to fill out YOUR form to promote YOU making money for FREE? Excuse me for writing the D for dummy off of my forehead because it must be there right? WRONG.

Publicist who get PAID expect us to work for FREE. Ignorantly calling us 'tastemakers". Adding insult to attempted injury they then ignore that we are a for profit company like them trying to get us to do things for FREE. Tastemaker huh? Yeah taste this................

Gladys Knight has something to say about the Soul Movement.

I had a great conversation with Gladys Knight about the internet the end will surprise you. Gladys Knight is such a nice nice person like you have probably already heard throughout the years. She has struggled with her health and inner self and yet seems to always carry herself in such a regal manner. When I think of Gladys (she said call her that despite me addressing her as Mrs Knight several times) I think of Cicely Tyson in acting. There is something about that generation of women that is truly remarkable.

There are also demons that generation fought with everyday of their lives. They have conquered some of the greatest challenges that the following generations (mine included) cannot begin to imagine.  Those people who are not black or African Americans  who's ancestors were slaves in America reading this email should understand that being black in America is hard. But being  WOMAN and black makes it hard time two.

As Gladys Knight talked about her history in a calm tone. She reminded me of the advantages for artists that exist today vs what they went through. In fact she said "child if I had the internet it would have been a different business". See initially I thought she was going to talk about the downloading issues. I was wrong she mentioned how the opportunities would open up for artists (keep in mind this woman was being illegally downloaded over 5000 times a day accroding to some stats).

Here is the surprising part. I had this conversation with her over 10 years ago! Ten years ago there were a few million people online not over 2 billion like there is today. 10 Years ago the top online companies were netscape, AOL, and Yahoo. And we all said Google who? There was no MySpace, Facebook or any other social medias. Social media was an email (laughing).

So many things have changed in such a short amount of time and even a legend like Gladys Knight understood that..... and then there is the underground Soul artists of today.

Check Your Ass and Your Ego at the Door Here Artists

I have very few "kind" words for them in the coming weeks and months on 4DaSoul. I have never seen so much bitching, moaning, arrogance, and cryingfrom a group of people before in my life.

This "privileged generation" of artists with access to more tools, resources, and people than ever in the history of the world. And yet many of them just complain how "bad" the industry has gotten. While using cutting edge technology to market themselves as if it was 15 years ago. Thats like driving a 747 airplane to work every morning while wondering why you don't independently reach the sky.

They go running to labels aka a sinking ship where even the dead has moved their carcass to retreat from the underwater transition. Why claim your music is original and fresh and then market it the same way as everyone else? That's like making a high quality steak or chicken dinner then wrapping it up and trying to sell it from McDonalds.  And yet they wonder why they "haven't had a break today." << that was a old Mickey D slogan for anyone under 30 (laughing).

There is a nasty smelly arrogance to Underground Soul. Something that hasn't been discussed publicly. How artists who claim to be mistreated mistreat the very supporters of their music. How they ignore the options they have to better their careers online. How many of them (no all) celebrate their ignorance by handing their entire career over to novice "so called managers / publicist" only to see the ass end of their career handed back to them after the little rookie that could (not) completely fucked it up. And guess what? it wasn't the rookies fault. They were "fans" they loved the music and the artists but didn't understand the depth of the underground soul music industry.

Question: how can you clean your ass when you don't think your shit stinks?

Solution: Call you out. Put a foot in your assets and then give you an answer. Some of my best teachers worked this way. And they knew exactly "who" to call out. See it isn't just not knowing. Again it is the badge of ignorance and metal of arrogance that will diminish this micro niche industry.

I told you some time ago that this site and the game is changing.

Schools in and we are teaching you the way no one ever has in soul.
