Erykah Badu Strips in New Video New Video (video below)

I am sure you seen all the buzz for several days especially yesterday. The reason I am mentioning this is in relation to the revolution in Soul in which I spoke about here. In an age where even an artist of her fame is seldom guaranteed an opportunity to sell E Badu isn't afraid to take risks. 

Now I am not saying that aoul artists should get naked (laughing). Despite my comedic requests to Myoshi Marilla and Kendra Ross yesterday to do their own versions. Also the crazy J Twists is writing his own "review" of that video so I wanted to get my own words on it in first before that nut.

Great idea using twitter and YouTube to let the campaign go viral. The idiotic part is that Universal is trying to restrain the video to certain people on Youtube. So in other words her own main parent company label is shooting their own sales in the foot. But lord knows they have never done that before right? A lot of wisdumb there.

And of course some people in Dallas are major pissed about it and talking about her. But who gives a damn? She struck a chord both for her art and for Groupthink. Now she has to follow up with an agenda to her groupthink statement. And if Universal is "smart" they will really run hard on this one and defend their artists and STOP trying to pull their own campaign from video sites. And of course here is the million dollar question people are asking me "would it be good if a man did it? Hey I had no offense to D'Angelo so yes I think it would be a great idea.

What Soul Artists can learn from this (no seriously).

Game up time. The thing that made Erykah Badu so connected on twitter is that she actually had conversations and build on twitter. Another thing that makes this (the video) unique is that she didn't ask for permission. She just did it. There is an old saying in street team lore. Sometimes it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Break the taboos of your standard promotions. I will talk more about this in PHASE II of our underground Soul revolution.

Speaking of taboos now and in future posts we are changing the way things are done among soul sites.  I think it is time to stop one of our underground soul movement taboos. And thats that we seldom promote each others sites (yes we are guilty of this too) except for a link section.

That is going to change here and now.

I would like to congratulate SoulBounce who has done an EXCELLENT job on covering Erykah Badu. When I first started 4DaSoul NO ONE was covering up to the minute news in Soul like us except for Honey Soul. And Honey had her own way of doing that differently from us. Chris Rizek at Soultracks was still doing just bios and reviews no news (correct me Chris if I am wrong). 

But now there are several outlets which is a good thing. The great thing about Soul Bounce is that they created something different. They didn't do the copycat thing. But I will talk more about the copycats sites soon.
